Winter activities in Sterling Ranch

Winter in Colorado is a season of sparkling snow, crisp air, and endless possibilities for fun and adventure. Living in Sterling Ranch, we're situated in a prime location that offers a wide range of activities to savor the colder months, whether you're into thrilling outdoor sports, cozy indoor gatherings, or exploring the scenic beauty that surrounds us. Here are my personal recommendations for winter activities near Sterling Ranch.

Hit the Slopes

One of the most thrilling winter activities Colorado is known for is skiing and snowboarding. Sterling Ranch's proximity to the mountains means some of the best ski resorts are just a drive away. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, the Rockies offer a variety of slopes and scenery that can't be beaten. Spend a day (or several) gliding down the world-class trails of resorts like Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park or Keystone. The drive to the resorts is around an hour and a half to two hours. You can get to 470 from Sterling Ranch in about 10 minutes, take it to I-70, and you are on your way.

Ice Fishing

Not quite ready to head to the heights of the ski slopes? Chatfield State Park, just beside Sterling Ranch, freezes in the winter and is open for ice fishing. It also has a variety of trails that are still passable during the winter. While it is a bit warmer in Sterling Ranch, Evergreen Lake is a 45 minute drive away and freezes earlier in the season.

Ice Skating

For a family-friendly outing or a charming date night, ice skating is a classic winter pastime. Evergreen Lake also operates the largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink in America. It's a cute town with great views, definitely worth checking out in the winter.

Nearby rinks in downtown Littleton or Denver provide that quintessential winter vibe, complete with hot chocolate and laughter. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise during the cooler months.

Cultural Pursuits in Denver

Winter is also a fabulous time to dive into indoor cultural activities. Denver's thriving arts scene doesn't slow down with the snow. Take in a show at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, peruse the latest exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum, or discover local history at the History Colorado Center. These experiences offer enriching outings that are perfect for escaping the chill.

Warm Up with Hot Springs

For a relaxing escape, Colorado's hot springs are a must-visit. Soaking in a naturally heated pool while surrounded by snow-covered landscapes is a magical experience. Indian Hot Springs, located in Idaho Springs, is less than an hour's drive away. If you are heading further into the mountains, Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood (on the way to Aspen) is another great choice.

Snow Tubing

For those looking for a rush of adrenaline closer to home, tubing is a winter activity that promises thrills for all ages. Echo Mountain, about an hour from Sterling Ranch, offers a winter snow tubing experience. Echo Mountain is up a very windy road which can be a bit treacherous depending on the snow conditions, so if you are looking for an easier drive, the Gaylord Rockies Resort is another good option. They transform the outdoor gathering space into a winter paradise each year with an ice skating rink and tubing lanes. They also have indoor festivities with a Christmas village and their famous ICE attraction, with realistic ice sculptures, slides, and arches.

If you're keen on a local treasure that doesn't require a drive, the Ken Caryl sledding hill is a neighborhood favorite when the snow conditions are just right.

Local Community Events

Last but not least, don't forget to check out the winter events within Sterling Ranch itself and the broader Littleton community. Holiday markets, light displays, and community gatherings are just a few of the ways our neighborhood celebrates the season.

As a real estate agent who's not only focused on helping clients find their dream home but also truly embrace their community, I find joy in sharing these local treasures. Winter in Colorado is a special time, and I hope you'll take advantage of all the incredible activities available near Sterling Ranch.
